Love = Jesus

I thought of something today. we often talk about Jesus and his love for us. In fact it is often said that God is love. If God is love, then Jesus (being the earthly incarnation of God) is love.

That got me to thinking:

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 could read...

4Jesus is patient, He is kind. He does not envy, He does not boast, He is not proud.
5He is not rude, He is not self-seeking, He is not easily angered, He keeps no record of wrongs.
6Jesus does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth.
7He always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

just a thought.

Here's the real challenge though. When we use the word "Christian" to identify ourselves, what we are really saying is "I am like Christ." Because the word "Christian" literally means "little Christ." Think about that for a second. When you give an attitude to the waitress at the restaurant.... Or when you pass by a homeless person and say mean things (in your head or with your mouth).... or when you are cut off in traffic and one hand reaches for the horn while the other reaches out the window in an odd "you're #1" sign...you are supposed to be like Christ.

4Mike is patient, He is kind. He does not envy, He does not boast, He is not proud.
5He is not rude, He is not self-seeking, He is not easily angered, He keeps no record of wrongs.
6Mike does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth.
7He always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

I am not saying that I am capable of this right now. I have a very hard time with most of these on a regular basis, especially when I see the same things in other "Christians." But the point is, we should be trying to be all of these things. Christ was and is. and so should we.
