The newest in cool computing!

Many of you know that I am a zealot in the religion of Macintosh-ism. So in an effort to mac-vangelism to the masses I feel obligated to make this posting.

Apple Computer has unveiled it's new iMac desktop computer design, which integrates all disk drives and processors into a flat display less than two inches thick. Well, there goes my gas money.

Dave Matthews Band - In a "crapload" of trouble.

The Dave Matthews Band is being sued by the state of Illinois for allegedly dumping 800 pounds of human waste from their tour bus into the Chicago River. The waste hit boat tour passengers passing underneath the bridge, including one lady who reportedly had her mouth open. I guess they weren't kidding when they wrote "Don't Drink the Water." Read the article here.

Get Lost!

I've been going to Re:Jesus for about a year now. There are some great resources on that site. Among them is the Online Prayer Labyrinth. If you do not now what a labyrinth is, it is basically a maze. The idea of a prayer labyrinth is that while you travel along the path, you come to stations that help guide you in meditation or prayer. It is a great way to encounter God. This labyrinth has a guided visual and audio component which makes it very interactive. Take 10-15 minutes and visit the Prayer Labyrinth. You'll be glad that you did.

Legalism Rules!

NEW YORK (AFP) - Roman Catholic officials have invalidated the First Communion of a New Jersey girl with a rare digestive disorder whose gluten intolerance put her on a collision course with Catholic doctrine. Haley Pelly-Waldman suffers from celiac sprue disease and cannot eat wheat, rye, oats, barley or malt, so when it came time for her to take the sacrament for the first time, her mother Liz asked her priest to allow Haley to eat bread made without gluten, which is a component of wheat. New U2 Album

VH-1 reports that U2 's still-untitled new album now has a release date. The Irish rockers will release their 11th studio album, produced by Steve Lillywhite, on Nov. 23, while the first single, "Vertigo," will hit radio on Sept. 24. A video will be released in October. Let the waiting begin ...

Thanks Relevant Magazine

Hey, some cool news. We just got word that not only are Borders, Books A Million and Barnes & Noble prominently carrying the Christian Culture Survival Guide, but Waldenbooks just picked it up chain-wide as well. Considering one unnamed Christian chain recently returned all of their copies because it was too "controversial" (*cough* Berean), we love hearing that the book is impacting mainstream chains nationally. That's the ultimate goal, after all ...

From the "Stupid People" file

Ray Montano entered a Farmington, N.M., Chevrolet dealership and demanded that he be given a new car saying that Jesus would finance the car for him. When he was denied, he threatened to drive his Ford Ranger through the showroom window, which he ended up doing, shattering glass and knocking over a chair and a plant ...

Depression & Deliver Me

Depression, it is an extremely long tunnel without a lighted exit.
It is like drowning without the water.
It is like being lost in the darkness with a broken flashlight.

How do I know what depression is like?

Because I am depressed.
I'm not just having a bad day. I am clinically diagnosed with major depressive disorder.
Understand this, being depressed is not the same as being suicidal.
It is more like being paralyzed be sadness.

I say all of that because when I left work tonight, i started the car and playing in the cd player was David Crowder.
Not just any song by the goteed guitar freak of nature that I so admire. No it was THE song.
Interestingly, I recently realized that Crowder did not write the song. It is also performed by Sarah Brightman, star of Phantom of the Opera.
And it appears in that version on the soundtrack to the movie Brokedown Palace.

Anyway. The song in question is Deliver Me.
This song has always enchanted me somehow,
But tonight, it really meant something to me.
And so I share the words with you.

Deliver me
Out of the sadness
Deliver me
From all the madness
Deliver me
Courage to guide me
Deliver me
Your strength inside me

CHORUS:
All of my life
I've been in hiding
Wishing there was someone just like You
Now that You're here
Now that I've found You
I know that You're the One to pull me through

Deliver me
Loving and caring
Deliver me
Giving and sharing
Deliver me
This cross that I'm bearing

Oh, deliver me

Jesus, Jesus how I trust You
How I've proved You o'er and o'er
Jesus, Jesus precious Jesus
Deliver me
Come and pull me through
Come pull me through

*NOTE. If you or a loved one seems down, upset, irritable, or sorrowful for an extended period of time, seek some kind of professional assistance. Depression is a serious illness and affects millions of people.

Some thoughts from Brian McLaren

I came across this on SoulGardener's website. Being a fan of McLaren, I thought I would pass it along to my readers as well.

brian.jpgOn Monday and Tuesday we attended a conference with Brian Mclaren as the speaker. It was a good time of learning and connecting. I’m still in the process of working through my notes and I’ll write a report on that. Here’s a few statements that connected with my cranium,

“The greatest cathedrals were built just before they ran empty”

“It will serve the church if we spend the next 15-20 years asking the question ‘what is the gospel?’

“Your theology is perfectly designed for the results you’re now experiencing”

A faithful translation of Matthew 6:33 would read “Seek God’s kingdom and his justice”

“The next Martin Luther can’t be white!”

“Vision is overrated and anxiety underrated”

“You never have something unless you contemplate it”

“These days Christians care more about being saved than being good”

“You become part of the Christ community for the good of the world”

I found two files with Brian Mclaren notes on the internet here and here (if you download and use them remember to credit Brian)
